I’m not sure about you, but I don’t wake up at 2:15 a.m. to get ready for work. I don’t set my toothbrushes and contacts out at night. I roll out of bed at the very last second, fly around the house like a crazy woman for an hour to get myself and everyone else ready and out the door, and barely make it to school and work on time.

Not Deirdre Fitzpatrick. In her own words: “I am excessively prepared. I am a big fan of not leaving things to chance.”

Deirdre is a morning news anchor at KCRA in Sacramento, California, where she has worked for 20 years. She’s had the opportunity to provide TV coverage for the last 10 Olympic games, and is a boy mom, wife, and runner of 50K races. I’m pretty sure she has at least 35 hours in her days… I am so impressed by her dedication to her work, her family, and her health.

In this episode, we talk about how she uses structure in her home to keep everyone on schedule, how she finds time with her friends through running, the importance of finding mentors and the three types of professional relationships all women should have, and what podcasting has brought to her work as a news reporter.
